The Georgia Standards of Excellence for Social Studies

On June 9, 2016, the State Board of Education approved the K-12 Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) for Social Studies. The K-12 Social Studies GSE should be implemented during the 2017-2018 school year.

Please visit the Georgia Standards of Excellence for Social Studies Webpage for content and instruction resources that includes GSE teacher notes, content tutorial videos, curriculum maps, sample units and more.

Social Studies Frameworks

The Social Studies Frameworks organizes the standards for the courses around units focuses. Under each unit focus there are connecting themes that are used to tie units together. These themes are connected to larger enduring understandings that transcend units and courses. Ultimately, the enduring understandings are what students will take from a course that applies to life on a daily basis. The Frameworks were developed to support teachers in the implementation of the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS). They are designed for use by schools throughout the state who may wish to utilize them as resources to guide and inform teaching standards.

AP US History Course Framework Crosswalk Document

A group of experienced AP US History teachers worked with Becky Chambers to create this alignment between the 2014 AP US History course framework and the GPS US History course to offer suggestions of details beyond each of those guidelines which teachers may opt to include in their course. If you have questions or would like to provide feedback, please contact Becky Chambers at rchambers@doe.k12.ga.us.
