Whether you plan to continue your education through medical school or want to graduate from high school into a career, Healthcare Science provides the challenging academic courses, relevant on-the-job experience, and specialized technical skills you need. In the classroom and laboratory, students build solid math, science, reading, writing, and communication skills. Special emphasis is placed on developing the problem- solving and decision-making skills required in the fast-paced healthcare industry. And, through the Introduction to Healthcare Science course, students learn basic concepts of health, wellness, and preventative care; medical terminology; microbiology; life-support skills; and the ethical and legal responsibilities of today’s healthcare provider.
Put your classroom knowledge and skills into practice through clinical experiences that range from Healthcare Science internships to paid positions through the Youth Apprenticeship Program (YAP). By working in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, daycare centers, nursing homes, elementary school clinics, physician offices, and rehabilitation centers, you will get the chance to explore the wide range of careers available. Additional activities are offered through the Healthcare Science CTSO, Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA). Health Occupation Students of America promotes leadership and provides competitive event opportunities at the local, state, and national levels. Health Occupations Students of America has more than 55 competitive events that include everything from Medical Photography to Sports Medicine.
